It is proven that saturated fat and cholesterol in the food make your blood cholesterol level rise. Saturated fat is the main culprit,  but cholesterol in foods also play a role. Therefore, reducing the quantity of saturated fat and cholesterol in your diet helps lower your blood cholesterol level.

Only half of patients at high risk of heart disease are given the right targets for cutting their cholesterol and millions may suffer heart attack or stroke due to doctors' poor advice, scientists said on Thursday.

Many lives could be saved if GPs followed guidelines for reducing cholesterol in those at high risk of heart disease, a study suggests.

MANHASSETT, N.Y., March 10 (UPI) -- U.S. and Swedish scientists have found an experimental thyroid drug reduces cholesterol without side effects suffered by some people using statins.




Keep a diary of the foods you eat during a week and have your cholesterol check to see whether these foods affect your readings. Herbal drugs, like gugulipid, may render some prescription drugs for lowering your cholesterol ineffective.

Avoid eating some red meat, because it is high in saturated fat and cholesterol, which can raise your blood cholesterol -  this does not mean that you need to stop eating it completely, because red meat is a significant source of protein, iron, and other vitamins and minerals.
